VACOped Achilles Tendon Rupture Fracture Boot review

As noted in my post The Achilles Heel of “Old Guys”, I had the unfortunate luck to experience a complete rupture of my left achilles tendon. Fortunately I stumbled upon a couple of great products that made the process much smother and did ease the burdon of being handicapped for several months. The first was the Vacoped Achilles Rupture Fracture boot!

While the boot has several unique features this VacOped boot as opposed to the typical ankle sprain or foot injury boot is that it articulates at the ankle.  The interior lambs wool sleeve has a vacuum insert to provide the rigid stability and this lives inside of a plastic exoskeleton. The vacumme “cast” gives an infinite adjustment to accomodate for swelling at the initial stages of wearing the boot, then can be tightend as swelling is reduced over time. Simply open the valve, put the boot on and use the small hand pump to “lock" in the cast.

The articulating feature allows for periodic adjustments of the angle, so as the Achilles tendon heals you are able to return to a normal range of motion one step at a time.  It can be locked at between 30 and 0 degrees flexion or can be opened to a very strict range of motion.  The 2 heal wedges allow for progressive weight bearing as you move through the different angles and really provides a great platform for graduated range of motion and strength training.

As you progress, the ability to remove the boot all together allows for normal physical therapy with bands etc. 4 simple velcro straps can be unclasped and the boot is off. With the vacuum interior cast, no further adjustment is required when replacing the boot, just step back in and close the 4 straps.

The final bonus with the vacoped is that is its “waterproof”, or at least able to be submerged in water.  As I mentioned earlier, living in Maine we have about 2 months of nice weather to look forward to each year, and as I heard the low snapping noise, all I could think of was how I would be relegated to the couch for both unable to enjoy the outdoors or the water.  Luckily, being able to get wet with the cast on took some of the sting out of “losing” the few summer months we enjoy here in Maine.

In conclusion, the Vacoped Achilles Tendon Rupture Fracture Boot proves to be an exceptional solution for individuals recovering from such injuries. With its innovative design and adjustable features, it offers a high level of comfort, support, and protection to the affected area. The boot not only immobilizes the foot and ankle effectively but also allows for controlled movement and gradual rehabilitation, promoting faster healing and reducing the risk of further damage. Its durable construction and user-friendly nature make it a reliable and convenient choice for patients, ensuring a smoother recovery journey. Overall, the Vacoped Achilles Tendon Rupture Fracture Boot proves to be an indispensable tool in aiding the rehabilitation process and restoring mobility, providing individuals with the confidence and convenience they need during their healing process. I give 5 stars and 2 thumbs up!
